Courses are delivered by Premiere Motorola Telemetry Specialists. Included in our syllabus, along with many important points of interests, we offer relevant hands-on training, in order for the participant to immediately utilize, in the field, the knowledge gained from our specialist. In addition to knowledge transfer, we can provide comprehensive training in customers systems to best assist with your understanding of these systems at hand.

Course Offering

Star Controls offers a variety of training courses, and most of these courses have been tailored to the entity’s needs, individuals’ skill level, and technology utilized. The following listings are typical courses to start as a baseline.

Example 1: Two (2) Days Motorola RTUs and SCADA Software

Objective: Teach invaluable information about key system issues and management techniques for SCADA and Maintenance crew.

Audience: SCADA staff, IT staff, Field Maintenance staff

Course Topics:

  • Course information will be based on the existing system, including the G-RTU, G-FIU, AU-RTU, Motorola MOSCAD, ACE3600 and MC-Edge Programming concept.
  • The course will use a demo MOSCAD/ACE3600/SCADA system to simulate the system and technical demonstrations to the audience.

Course High Lights: Day 1

  • Telemetry System Overview – “How everything works together”: The Field RTUs, the Radio communications, and the SCADA software
  • Motorola RTUs Detail – “Everything you need to know about MOSCAD, ACE3600 and MC-Edge RTUs”: Configuration, Wiring, Operation, Communications, Connectivity to other devices

Example 2: Five (5) Days General Motorola SCADA Course

Objective: Comprehensive knowledge transfer on Motorola RTUs based systems.

Audience: SCADA staff, IT staff, Field Maintenance staff Course High Lights:

  • Telemetry System Overview – “How everything works together”: The Field RTUs, the Radio communications, and the SCADA software
  • Motorola RTUs Detail – “Everything you need to know about MOSCAD and ACE3600 RTUs” : Configuration, Wiring, Operation, Communications, Connectivity to other devices, Troubleshooting and Diagnostics, Optimization
  • Radio Communications – “All about communications” : Radio Types Configuration and Operation, Communication methods, Troubleshooting, and Diagnostics, Optimization
  • RTU Connectivity to other devices – Example: MultiSmart pump controller integration with ACE 3600
  • SCADA interacting – How to connect and display RTU data on a SCADA system (VTScada will be used as an example).
  • Local Displays – How to connect a LOCAL display to Motorola RTUs and use it to get readings, alarms, and perform controls
  • LIVE and hands-on – Class will be using live equipment for all demonstrations

 

Example 3: Five (5) Day Motorola RTU Programming Course

Objective: Comprehensive knowledge transfer on Motorola RTUs based systems.

Audience: SCADA Programmers

Course High Lights:

  • STS System configurations : Covering all types of component configurations in great detail
  • Communication and network configuration and management : Covering simple and complex networks
  • Integration with Legacy RTUs : Using STS with MOSCAD, IPGW, MCP-M, MOSCAD-L and ACE3600
  • Simple Programming : Using STS to program simple I/O and communication routines
  • Hands On! Class will be tailored to fit specific needs, allowing practice with the specific RTU and application.

 

Example 4: StaRTU Training Class

Daily Agenda

Day 1

Morning Session – Motorola RTU Technical Overview and Basic Setup / Configuration

Discussion and demonstration of hardware components, communications elements, a brief introduction to the System Design software tool, STS (latest released version) software. This is a high-level overview of SCADA infrastructure and initial setup of a Process Area Network. Much of the morning session will be conceptual and presentation-oriented.

Afternoon Session – StaRTU Configuration

Students will learn how to quickly apply pre-packaged logic to a number of sites. Application examples range from a typical wastewater pumping station, water booster station, and many other industry applications. A networked lab of RTUs and FIUs will be provided for individual configuration.

Day 2

Morning Session – More StaRTU Applications, and Examples of SCADA and Local HMI

Discussion and demonstration of system and StaRTU optimization (customer’s specific applications may be used as examples). Discussion, usage, and demonstration of HMI interface via Modbus protocol.

Afternoon Session – Testing and Troubleshooting

Demonstration and usage of StaRTU troubleshooting. There are many different useful, sophisticated techniques that are built-in to troubleshoot a StaRTU. Customer’s specific issues may be used as examples.

Day 3

Morning Session – System Optimization

Advanced use of StaRTU, ladder logic, advanced Modbus commands

Afternoon Session – Review and Open Session

Discussion of system communications and troubleshooting techniques. This session will be custom tailored to students’ requests and needs.
